Leading Someone to Christ

Below is a simple step-by-step approach to the sharing of faith with others and should prevent any uncessary arguments that would hinder a complete presentation of the gospel.

Determine the other person's spirtual condition by asking the following:

This will allow you to evaluate the person. If he is ready to be led to the Lord right then you can proceed to the final series of five question which call for a decision to receive Christ. If not then continue with the following by reading the scripture known as -- The ROMANS ROAD.

Faith comes from hearing the word (Romans 10:17) and then The Holy spirit will do the convincing and the convicting. (Luke 10:26)

Pastor Bill Gohlson, of Vienna, Illinois once told me that an easy way to remember the Scriptures when using your bible, is to turn to the first verse and write on the margin of the page, the number of the next verse and the page number in your bible where it is located. Then after the person you are with reads the scripture, you can ask your questions and then you can turn to the next one listed without losing track of where you are.

Once you have competed the reading and discussion of the scriptures, you are ready to close by asking the final -- FIVE QUESTIONS.

  • Are you a sinner? This question points back to Romans 3:23. Since this Scripture states that All have sinned, his answer should be --YES.
  • Do you want forgiveness of sins? Romans 6:23 states that forgiveness is a gift provided by Jesus that he must accept for himself, his answer should be --YES.
  • Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again? In Romans 5:6 it was explained that Jesus died for the ungodley. His answer should be --YES.
  • Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ? In John 14:6, Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me." -- the answer should be YES.
  • Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life? Romans 10:9-10 states that we are saved when we personally accept the truth about Jesus and put our trust in him. -- His answer should be YES.
  • Are you sure? His answer should be YES.
You can then lead him/her through a prayer such as this:

Father, thank You for the free gift of eternal life. I Know I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I am sorry for my past sins, and I ask You to forgive me.

Jesus, I believe You died on the cross for my sins and arose from the dead. I now open the door of my heart and invite You to come into my life. I realize there is nothing I can do to earn my salvation, and I place my complete trust in you alone for eternal life. I choose to follow You as my Lord. Please mold me and make me the person you want me to be -- AMEN!
